【摘要】:Thedeterminationofplutoniumisotopiccompositionbygamma-rayspectrometryisanondestructivetechniqueandwhenusedwithothernondestructivetechniques,suchascalorimetry(TestMethodC1458)orneutroncounting(TestMethodsC1207,C1316,C1493,andC1500),canprovideawhollynondestructiveplutoniumassaynecessaryformaterialaccountancyandsafeguardsneeds.Becausegamma-rayspectrometrysystemsaretypicallyautomated,theroutineuseofthetestmethodisfast,reliable,andisnotlaborintensive.Thetestmethodisnondestructive,requiresnosamplepreparation,anddoesnotcreatewastedisposalproblems.Thistestmethodassumesthatallplutoniuminthemeasureditemhasthesameisotopicdistribution,oftencalledisotopichomogeneity(see7.2.4and7.2.5).The242Puabundanceisnotmeasuredbythistestmethodandmustbeestimatedfromisotopiccorrelationtechniques,streamaverages,historicalinformation,orothermeasurementtechniques.Americium-241isadaughterproductof241Pu.The241Am/239Puatomratiocanalsobedeterminedbymeansofthistestmethod(assumingahomogeneousisotopicdistributionofplutoniumand241Am).Thedeterminationofthe241Am/239Puatomratioisnecessaryforthecorrectinterpretationofacalorimetricheatmeasurement.Theisotopiccompositionofagivenbatchoritemofplutoniumisanattributeofthatitemand,oncedetermined,canbeusedinsubsequentinventorymeasurementstoverifytheidentityofanitemwithinthemeasurementuncertainties.Themethodcanalsomeasuretheratioofothergamma-emittingisotopestoplutoniumassumingtheyhavethesamespatialdistributionastheplutoniumintheitem.Someofthesex201C;otherx201D;gamma-emittingisotopesincludeisotopesofuranium,neptunium,curium,cesium,andotherfissionproducts.Thesamemethodsofthisstandardcanbeusedtomeasuretheisotopiccompositionofuraniuminitemscontainingonlyuranium(3,4,5,6).1.1Thistestmethodisapplicabletothedeterminationofisotopicabundancesinisotopicallyhomogeneousplutonium-bearingmaterials.Thistestmethodmaybeapplicabletootherplutonium-bearingmaterials,someofwhichmayrequiremodificationstothedescribedtestmethod.1.2Theprocedureisapplicabletoitemscontainingplutoniummassesrangingfromafewtensofmilligramsuptothemaximumplutoniummassallowedbycriticalitylimits.1.3Measurablegammarayemissionsfromplutoniumcovertheenergyrangefromapproximately30keVtoabove800keV.K-X-rayemissionsfromplutoniumanditsdaughtersarefoundintheregionaround100keV.Thistestmethodhasbeenappliedtoallportionsofthisbroadspectrumofemissions.1.4Theisotopicabundanceofthe242Puisotopeisnotdirectlydeterminedbecauseithasnousefulgamma-raysignature.IsotopiccorrelationtechniquesmaybeusedtoestimateitsrelativeabundanceRefs(1)and(2).1.5Thistestmethodhasbeendemonstratedinroutineuseforisotopicabundancesrangingfrom99tox003C;50%239Pu.Thistestmethodhasalsobeenemployedforisotopicab......
